Crunchy In The Community: Capital Coffee Social Enterprise
Crunchy Carrots is always striving to play a positive role in the local community. This is why we – and our Managing Director, Scott Henderson – are proud supporters of Larbert High School’s Capital Coffee social enterprise which, amongst many benefits to the pupils, provides financial support to Strathcarron Hospice – a truly worthy cause!
The Capital Coffee enterprise is a coffee shop run by student volunteers from Larbert High School, offering a great range of hot drinks, with proceeds being donated to Strathcarron Hospice. The young baristas are central to the running, and success, of the project. Not only are they getting brilliant work experience and personal development whilst still in education, but they’re playing a big part in a community-based enterprise that’s benefitting many people. In fact, the shop’s doing so well that it is now utilised for various events held at the school too!
The enterprise is supported by the Todhill Wind Farm Community Fund; the committee for which, our Managing Director Scott Henderson has been a member since 2015. The fund provides grants that preserve and develop the area of Larbert, Stenhousemuir and Torwood as a great place to live, supporting activity that improves the look and feel of the area, and enhances the community for future generations. The fund is managed by Foundation Scotland.

As a member of the Todhill Wind Farm Fund committee, Scott was keen to play a part in setting up a legacy and far-reaching project that would not only generate further revenue for the local community but that would provide young people with the core skills that would get them ready for work in the near future. This led him to be one of the driving forces behind starting up the Capital Coffee enterprise that’s already proven to be highly beneficial to the area and to those running it.
Scott himself is a Larbert High alumnus, after attending the school a few years ago and is delighted to have had the idea to set up the Capital Coffee shop. Of the project itself Scott said:
“Visiting the Capital Coffee shop was a great experience. It was really impressive to see such a level of commitment from the young people running it and it’s clearly had a positive impact on them too, in terms of their development. A lot of the students have come on a lot since the beginning of their invovlement and are showing off what they’re capable of.
“To see how beneficial the enterprise has been to them is one thing, but the fact that the shop is also financially supporting Strathcarron Hospice is just brilliant! It’s been a personal aim of mine for a number of years to see a project like this set up in the area, so I’m really pleased to see it already being a success.”
