Crunchy Carrots: Rooting for Sustainability
At Crunchy Carrots, we’re invested in playing our part in the conservation of the planet. As a business, as well as individually, we know all about our responsibility to operate sustainably, reducing our carbon footprint. This is why we’re constantly looking at ways we can do more… and we have been!
Since our last update, we’ve made some significant changes. This includes revamping our Perth office to ensure maximum energy efficiency, reducing our overall energy consumption by a significant margin. Additionally, we’ve adopted an electric vehicle (EV) for our on-the-go team to use, further reducing energy consumption! Crunchy Carrots is also still a proud member of the Carbon Club; an initiative that allows businesses to play their part in countering the effects of climate change.
Energy Efficiency
In line with our focus on sustainability, we’ve recently given our Perth office a revamp that’s seen it rid of old, inefficient systems and equipped with a brand-new air source heat pump and underfloor heating. This move has improved our efficiency significantly, bringing with it a staggering 75% reduction in our energy consumption!
So, what is an air source heat pump, and how does it support our vision?
It harnesses the surrounding air, providing heating and cooling all year round for the office. This is great because it utilises renewable energy from the atmosphere, significantly reducing our reliance on heating systems that contribute to carbon emissions. So, that’s a comfortable new office environment for our team and a substantial reduction in our environmental impact. What a result!
We also implemented an underfloor heating system that not only provides an even and cosy ambiance but optimises our energy consumption too. This energy-saving solution both reduces our environmental impact and contributes to a more sustainable workplace. Our eco-friendly journey doesn’t stop here, though. We get that sustainability isn’t a one-and-done thing, it’s an ongoing effort. This is why we’ve also upgraded our transportation options…
Electric Vehicle
Since our last update, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve added an electric-powered car to the Crunchy Carrots fleet! Efficiently powered, our EV Mini paves the way for a greener future, aligning perfectly with our Net Zero commitment. By adopting this EV, we’re significantly reducing our carbon emissions and contributing to cleaner air in Falkirk, Perth, and across Scotland.
The transition was a natural extension of our broader sustainability and Net Zero strategy. We’re big believers in small changes making a difference, and our electric vehicle represents this.
Carbon Club
Our sustainability efforts don’t end there, though. We’re always looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact and make a positive difference. That’s why Crunchy Carrots continues to be a proud member of Forest Carbon’s ‘Carbon Club’. The Carbon Club is supported by members who purchase credits based on the level of carbon that they’re projected to emit, and each carbon credit purchased contributes to the restoration of dilapidated woodlands across the UK and the creation of new ones. Through this, Crunchy Carrots is responsible for the planting of around 200 trees annually. Projects that we’ve contributed to, since joining the Club, ranges from the restoration of degraded habitats in the Scottish Borders, to the creation of a new native woodland that supports biodiversity, and much more!
Not only do these new woodlands capture CO2 – the main driver of climate change – they also enable us to adapt to a changing climate by helping to reduce flooding. As well as this, they offer a range of other benefits, including cleaner air and rivers, sustainable timber, green space for people and habitat for wildlife.
Of course, we couldn’t have done this all by ourselves. We’d like to extend our thanks to Perth Council for the support through their Green Recovery Grant and Renewable Heat for the installation of our new energy-efficient kit!
