Next up on our Scottish Apprenticeship Week series, it’s the turn of our Web and IT Modern Apprentice, Jack. Jack joined Crunchy Carrots straight from school and was the 2nd MA to join us. Have a look, below, as he takes us through his Apprenticeship journey up to now.
My journey so far
Unlike the other two apprentices, I moved into this MA direct from high school. I was at a point where I knew what interested me about school but had no idea how to apply that to the next steps in life. I always enjoyed Computing Science as a subject but wasn’t too sure about where I was going next. I came across the advertisement for a Modern Apprenticeship in Web Design and IT, and now here I am!
Ways that taking my path has benefitted me
Being in this role at Crunchy Carrots has been very beneficial for me so far. It’s given me the chance to settle into, and understand, a professional work environment and everything that comes with that. It’s been great to work and learn with the safety net of the apprenticeship whilst also dealing with ‘real’ work with our clients.
I’ve been through highs and lows since joining the business. I think a lot of that is from me moving into quite a different environment from school as it’s the first job of my career, but I feel like I’ve found my place within team.
Going from high school to a professional work environment was tough, from having to manage my time well in a fast-paced environment to talking to clients, this MA has allowed me to gain the skills progress into a bright and exciting future.
Would I recommend an MA to someone else, and why?
Yeah, definitely! School wasn’t something that engaged me much and so I never really got the best out of it. My MA, on the other hand, has been full of interesting and educational experiences within a subject that I enjoy. It’s great that there’s alternative routes into a career that’s right for you.
