Scottish Apprenticeship Week is upon us and, with around a quarter of the Crunchy Carrots team being Modern Apprentices, we’ve got plenty to celebrate. Today, we’re hearing from Joe – one of our Creative and Digital Media Apprentices – talking about his time with us as an MA, his highlights, and some of the challenges faced up to now…
At the time of writing, I’m around seven months into my Creative and Digital Media Modern Apprenticeship with Crunchy Carrots… and it’s been full of new experiences, challenges, and moments to learn from (by which, I mean mistakes!).
It’s these experiences, though, that’ve seen me adopt new ways of working and improving and that have made my Modern Apprenticeship interesting.
What have I taken from my Modern Apprenticeship, so far?
Undergoing an apprenticeship with Crunchy Carrots has meant being ‘thrown in at the deep end’ in a fast-paced and challenging environment. From the get-go, I’ve been encouraged to contribute in a big way through new ideas, content creating, working alongside various clients, and a fair bit more. It’s allowed me to learn a great deal about the job I can do and given me a lot of confidence from which to do it.
Understanding the contribution that I can make to an organisation such as this one and appreciating fully the abilities that I can bring to the table has not been an insignificant part of my development as an apprentice. From my own perspective, I think it’s important for young people to know – alongside understanding what’s required of them in their careers – that they have something to offer the workforce, and that they possess values necessary to sustaining business. My experience has certainly given me that belief and understanding which has been vital to the contribution I’ve been able to make to Crunchy Carrots, so far.
My MA has also been great for me in adapting to new ways of working with others and organising myself and my work in a reliable way.
What’s challenged me about my Modern Apprenticeship?
In the best way, the element of my MA that I’ve found most challenging is learning to work with the pressures that come with being part of a small digital marketing team. Having to be quick to react to developments, planning for the future, staying on top of ever-changing trends, and of course ensuring that Alfie – the resident Cockapoo – has plenty snacks and water, has allowed me to grow a lot within my role at Crunchy Carrots.
I’m looking forward to the remainder of my MA and continuing to pick up the tricks of the trade that I enjoy. If you’re reading this whilst unsure of what to do next, I can’t recommend the path of an apprenticeship enough. Regardless of if you’re still at school or looking to take that next step, Foundation and Modern Apprenticeships are a great route into a career that interests you.
