When it comes to offering a perfect blend of beer, food, and live entertainment, Brewhemia is a one-of-a-kind venue in Edinburgh. However, their existing website wasn’t doing justice to the eclectic experience they offer. Brewhemia approached Crunchy Carrots with specific challenges: they needed a website that not only facilitated e-commerce and simplified bookings but one that also resonated with a broader demographic… Challenge accepted!
In our latest case study, we’re delving into how the web geeks at Crunchy Carrots met these challenges head-on: integrating seamless e-commerce capabilities and collaborating with third-party services to simplify the booking process, as well as broadening their online offering; repositioning Brewhemia’s brand to appeal to a wider audience and drive traffic during targeted time; and training their team to make future updates to the site themselves – because, y’know, “teach a man to fish…” and all that.
Brewhemia had a vision for their website, understanding and emphasising the need for specific features to improve the user experience and to streamline their online operation. One of the key steps in realising their vision was WooCommerce integration for their e-commerce needs. This allows them to manage their online store efficiently, providing a seamless shopping experience for customers. They wanted to simplify the booking process for customers as well as broadening their offering. To this end, we collaborated with a third-party provider to integrate an easy-to-use booking platform. This not only made bookings straightforward but improved the overall user experience on the site, too.
That’s not all on that front, either. Another of the new features that we implemented for Brewhemia was the evolution of their online shop offering. Previously, the shop was limited to selling cash value vouchers. Recognising the untapped potential, we expanded the shop to offer unique Brewhemia experiences, such as their signature Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea. This not only broadened the range of products available but also enriched the customer experience by providing more tailored options. This has not only diversified the revenue streams for Brewhemia but also created a more engaging and personalised shopping experience for customers.
Another of Brewhemia’s goals was to shift their brand image to appeal to a wider audience. Up until now, they felt that their image was perceived somewhat male-centric, and they wanted to broaden their customer base. We addressed this by focusing on design elements and content that would resonate with a female demographic. Alongside this shift, they wanted to target customers for ‘after work drinks,’ particularly on Friday nights, which has historically been a quieter time for them. We implemented special promotion areas visible on the website to attract this specific customer segment, aiming to boost footfall and sales during these hours. This section allows the staff to change as and when their offers and events require.
Making sure that Brewhemia’s website remains up to date, we’ve set up an ongoing support relationship with their team. This includes specialised training for their marketing staff, equipping them with the skills to manage website developments independently.
Additionally, we’ve integrated a versatile ‘Hero’ section into the website’s design. This feature serves as a flexible space for Brewhemia to highlight promotions, upcoming events, or special offerings, enabling them to keep the site’s content fresh and engaging for visitors. With these features and ongoing support, the Brewhemia team is all set to maintain a vibrant and effective online presence.
Key Performance Indicators
The launch of Brewhemia’s revamped website has thrown up some pretty impressive results, as shown by their KPIs. Compared to the same quarter last year, the website’s had a 17.1% increase in new users, signalling a greater brand awareness and potential for lead generation.
User sessions also saw a notable uptick – with a 19.5% increase – indicating heightened engagement and a greater likelihood of customer retention and conversion. However, one of the most interesting indications of the website’s improved user experience is the 13.8% reduction in bounce rate. This tells us that visitors are finding the website more engaging and so are more likely to convert; whether that’s through making a booking, signing up for a newsletter, or another form of engagement. So, overall, these metrics not only validate the effectiveness of the website redesign but also promise a more successful customer journey.
