What has kept you busy during the past 12 months in lockdown?
Exercising is definitely what has kept me busy over the past 12 months (aside from work). The gym that I attend ‘The Engine Room’ (The ER) have been running online classes, outdoor classes and have been renting out their equipment which has been brilliant for all the home workouts we’ve been doing!
My family had a weekly Zoom quiz which always resulted in drinking maybe a bit too much but was always a great laugh! (I think we can all relate). For the quizzes, I’ve enjoyed making plenty of cocktails and stocking up on my drinks collection which always seems to need to be topped up? Ha-ha!
What’s the reason behind all your exercising in lockdown?
The motivation behind all the exercising apart from keeping fit and healthy was definitely the MYZONE ‘Gym Wars’ competition which The Engine Room was competing in. Everyone at The ER is super competitive, so we had to give the challenge a go. It was exhausting but brilliant. Plus we were the only Scottish gym involved in it, and that gave us extra added motivation!
The challenge had 12 teams (gyms) in total including The ER. The first round was over 21 days and the top 4 gyms with the highest average MYZONE Effort Points (MEPs) went into a semi-final over 5 days. The top 2 teams went into a 3-day final. In total, it was 29 days of workouts with multiple workouts in the same day (wow!) 🤮
It was all worth it as we won the competition! We are now into the worldwide finals where we’ll be representing the UK – a huge achievement for us!
MYZONE is great for tracking your workouts and meeting your exercise goal every month (MEPs) – which I’ve done for 24 months in a row now, so I can’t stop!!
Any advice for someone thinking of starting the gym and exercising?
Start now! It’s amazing what you can do at home without any equipment. You can get so many amazing bodyweight only workouts online now so there really is no reason why we can’t all be doing some exercise – I was even using my couch for tricep dips!
It keeps you motivated, healthy and focused which has been brilliant during lockdown. All you need is a mat and your TV, tablet or mobile phone!
What are you most looking forward to after lockdown?
Socialising with friends and family, catching up on all the days out we’ve missed. I can’t wait to go out for dinner and drinks, hopefully soon!
