The previous website had become slow and difficult to maintain, with large areas of duplicated and outdated content. Match data, fixtures and team information were heavily dependent on manual updates, creating a significant time commitment for the club’s in-house media team. With limited internal resource available for ongoing website admin, key areas of the site were often left to tick along, reducing freshness and supporter engagement.
Working closely with the club’s internal team, we helped define a clear set of goals for the site rebuild and functionality.
The website was rebuilt on a modern, lightweight WordPress foundation, removing WP Bakery and the technical constraints that came with it. A template approach was introduced across key content types, ensuring the site remains consistent, easier to manage and scalable as the club’s requirements evolve.
We implemented an API-driven solution, sourcing official SPFL data to automate fixtures, results, squads, tables and match statistics. Previously, this information required multiple updates each week — and was often delayed due to time constraints — but it is now consistently accurate and always up to date.
The new match pages provide a significantly deeper supporter experience, including detailed match reports and performance statistics. This creates a more engaging view of each fixture and is designed to encourage longer sessions and deeper exploration of content.
Replacing existing navigation with clearly labelled mega menus and a simplified structure, informed by user behaviour insights from tools like Microsoft Clarity and best practice across the sector. We also restructured areas of the site to better communicate commercial and advertising opportunities, creating a clear foundation for future growth.
