Simon Talks Walking & DIY!
What has kept you busy during the past 12 months in lockdown?
Myself and my partner booked our wedding which is super exciting and takes A LOT of planning so that has definitely kept both of us occupied.
We both started hill walking, which is great for getting us outside in the fresh air at the weekends! We have climbed a good few hills now such as Ben Ledi, Ben Lomond and Ben Vorlich. We take our chihuahua with us, however he struggles on the steep hills!
We have also been spending a lot of time doing DIY around our house which I love! I’ve tiled our bathroom and most recently completed panelling in our bedroom which I’m really proud of.
Oh, and who can forget TikTok cake trends which I’m sure everyone’s gave a bash by now!
What’s your reason for taking up hill walking and DIY?
It’s kept me sane over the past year, it’s good to have something to focus on like DIY. You can distract yourself from everything that’s going on, even if it is just for 10 minutes.
When hill walking, you’re enjoying time outdoors which is great for your mental health and the views are amazing so it’s all worth the pain when you get to the top – you feel great afterwards! This past year has definitely been about the small victories.
Any tips for someone thinking of starting hill walking or DIY?
Make sure you have the right tools… for both! I’ve been there myself. I did our first hill walk in my trainers and I realised I quickly needed to buy walking boots. It’s baby steps, for both hill walking and DIY, just take your time and enjoy it!
What are you most looking forward to after lockdown?
First and foremost, our wedding! By the time it comes around it will probably be our first large gathering (rules permitted) with our family and friends in SO long. That’s definitely what I’m most excited for. Of course, summer and some better weather is up there on my list too as we all deserve some good weather to enjoy a great summer.
